  1. There is a new stadium beeing built near my hometown for a soccer club that's at best of regional importance…50+ million just wasted for a few players and the few thousand fans. There are about 2million people <1h driving away and they couldn't get their old stadium to achieve 50% occupency and now they build one three times the capacity,,,why does stadium-sport always get special treatment…

  2. Meanwhile in Britain we’ve had grounds in the same place for over 120 years, that’s British ingenuity to adapt the grounds from parks to standing and then seated stadiums.

  3. I wish you could do one of these stories on Pittsburgh Civic Auditorium. They already tore it down though so I don’t know if you do stories on places that aren’t here anymore. Another great story this time though, thank you❣️

  4. Moral of the story, don't build football stadiums with a roof. Works well in DC, Green Bay and others, and it's a sport that should be played outdoors.

  5. Great footage from all the varied events held at the stadium—cool!

Also, love how it was abandoned and the public and vandals were basically providing free demolition over the years. A bit of a different take on the GM classic song by Johnny Cash, “One Piece At a Time.”

  6. Worst venue that I have ever watched a game in. The lighting reflected off the roof and caused a visual "haze" to exist, so you could never clearly see the field. And the acoustics were atrocious. The nail in the coffin was the NFL's blackout rules, because while the Lions went through multiple poor seasons, their not sold-out home games wouldn't be televised in the Detroit Metro. As he points out, the economy was in tatters, and NFL tickets were a luxury many could not afford. So an entire generation of Detroiters grew up having to watch other teams on TV when the Lions played at home – 50% of their games.

  7. As a kid in the U.K. back in the 80`s i used to watch ball game footage from over in the U.S. and be totally blown away by stadiums like this ! (we had nothing that came even close over here) .. it`s kinda sad how some of them have met their demise …

  8. Was at the Led Zep show there. Place was unbelievably large. My seat was in front of one of the fans that blew air into the building to hold the roof up lol! Eventually we made our way to the floor and the front of the stage. Could never have done that anywhere else.

  9. Wow.
The previous generations could get something built in 23 months.
But today, it's just a stark example of how most of these projects today don't even get finished.

  10. I have a picture my grandfather took of the helicoper bringing in the roof for it. Taken from across featherstone by that old house that stands alone

  11. Imagine buying a building for pennies and not being able to afford its repair then just leaving it to rot after planning to split the building into multiple sections. Either this guys are idiots or they’re afraid of commitment.

  12. And now since the stadium has been demolished a huge new Amazon warehouse with hundreds of Amazon trucks are there now. I drive by it everyday and you would have no idea the silver dome ever sat there

  13. And only took two attempts to be implode it. I miss the troffs. The smell of pot smoke at a Redman truck pull. The rain the night of wrestlemania 3, got poured on. That city has gone bankrupt, and the crime is horrid. Shame.
